The legacy of READ Educational Trust
READ Educational Trust and its associated entities is one of the first literacy organisations in South Africa. Founded in 1979, READ led literacy advocacy efforts and interventions to address low literacy levels in South Africa, targeting learners and teachers from under-resourced schools. READ’s contribution, footprint, and legacy in the literacy and education sectors are indisputable.
Over the years READ’s programmes and interventions have impacted
across South Africa.
Our innovative approach to language and education
READ’s methodology and approach to language literacy is innovative, agile, and strategic, enabling READ to continuously evolve and appropriately respond to the changing global environment and the technological advances of the 21st century. READ’s focus on English as a first additional language is purposeful and designed to assist learners in becoming confident and adept in English, a language required to succeed academically and professionally.
